| REPONDEZ S’IL VOUS PLAIT: We’d like to encourage you to register in advance for AFH programs and events. You’ll save money and make life easier for those who are doing the planning. On the other hand, if you’re one of those who just can’t plan ahead or likes to do things on the spur of the moment, do join us, but call the AFH office first to make sure the program has not be cancelled due to bad weather, illness, lack of registrations, etc. Registrants will receive a call if a program is cancelled for reasons other than weather. If the weather is questionable, those registered and other interested members should call 860-278-9999 – a message will notify you of the program’s status. |
| Volunteers Needed
for Program Committee!
Events such as the Annual Meeting, the 14 juillet, the Beaujolais Nouveau, and the Fête de Noël require dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers working together to plan and implement their creative ideas. In the past, in addition to these events, the AFH has offered cooking classes, wine tastings, tennis soirées, game nights, music programs, trips to New York City and Québec, etc. The possibilities are endless, but first we need YOU to volunteer your time to make it happen. Join a convivial group of Francophiles who just want to have fun! Call Anne Marie today at 860-278-9999. |

Encourage
Promising French Students: The Alliance Française of Hartford has for many years recognized the most promising students of French with a book and a certificate given at a ceremony held in their honor each spring. In the fall of 2006, the Board of Directors of the Alliance Française of Hartford established an Annual Giving Society to recognize charitable contributions for the purpose of supporting the Robert McFarland Memorial Book Awards. After the death of past AFH President Robert McFarland after a long battle with cancer in May, 2002, memorial contributions from Bob’s family and friends poured into the Alliance as per Bob’s expressed wishes. It was felt fitting to dedicate these funds to the purchase of books for the Book Awards Ceremony and the Awards officially became known as the Robert McFarland Book Award Ceremony. This fund has continued to support the purchase of books for the past five years, but it needs new benefactors to sustain it. Please consider becoming one of our “bienfaiteurs” and choose to give at one of the following levels:
All donors will be recognized in our newsletter and donors at the highest level will be invited to attend the Book Awards reception to be recognized there as well. |
